Christmas is about God the Father sending his Son, the promised King, to save us from our sin. It’s an everlasting, immaterial gift that cannot be earned through our good works or deeds, but only received by faith. Mary, the mother of Jesus, knew this fact just as well, that belief brings blessing.
It’s no wonder that a lot of Christian history and theology focuses on Mary, especially during the Christmas season. Not only was she the earthly mother of Jesus, we can learn a lot from her faithful obedience, unwavering belief, and hope in the Lord. He chose her for a divine appointment that would change the world and bring cosmic fulfillment to God’s promise to ultimately redeem his creation. What a calling!
Not only does Mary’s belief bring blessing, but as we’ll learn this week, God’s blessing and favor towards his chosen ones at Christmas requires a particular response. For Mary, the gift of Christmas is received with a posture of worship and humility built on the foundation of remembrance.
Watch this week’s message, “Receiving the Gift of Christmas” from Luke 1:39-56. Then, I invite you to join us at our next Restoration Church gathering this Sunday, December 6 at 10:00am as we discuss and apply what we have learned together in a community that is learning to follow Jesus, one step at a time.
